Six page album cover

I have started the album i have completed the front cover the track list and the back covers and the left cover. The photos link well to the video and there is a clear relation of theme and genre. So far i think it is going well and we just need to shoot some more photos to put in the inside covers and the inside back.

09/12/2014

Today I have edited together the first 50 seconds rough copy of our music video with a few test filters and transitions. As well as this I have filled in a lot of the website pictures and edited the text and layouts to fit our artists brand image.

Test shots

Here are some of our artists test shots, which we took. We used this time to confirm dates and rehearse the lyrics, so that the lip syncing is accurate.

Risk Assessment

Risk
How to prevent it
The train station and London can get busy, during rush hour and at other peak times. As we will be travelling to London with a group of people we need to ensure that no one gets lost or hurt.
  • Our mobile phones will play a large part in making sure we have constant contact with each other in case someone gets lost, as well as this we all need to make sure that if anyone needs to split from the group they stay with at least one other member of the group.

The equipment is very expensive and therefore is at a risk of theft and damage.
  •            We need to keep hold of the equipment at all times, and ensure when it is not in use that it is securely put back in the case and locked. In the group we will set equipment to individual people to be in charge of so we can keep track of it.
  •            When using the camera and tripod we need to make sure that it is secure so that it does not get damaged or broken.

Back Up Recce

Our back up location for the bedroom shots, is at another bed room, which we have received permission to use from Megan Jones. The room has the same colour scheme that we want to use, so if our first location is unavailable we can still follow with our original plans. To travel here we would all need to travel by car as the location is far from our actors home and we are unable to get there by public transport. This may cause issues because as well as our actors we have a production team, for make up and costume so not every one may be available to travel.

As London security can be very strict and difficult to gain permissions, we have decided on other locations in the city that we can use as back ups. Covent garden often has street acts so this will work well instead of  South Bank. It is not the best choice as it is very busy with tourists this meaning that theft can be a large risk here.
Leciester Square is often packed with people, which makes it a suitable back up location as well. The square is very popular and is often holding events like premiers etc, meaning that we may have to receive permission to film here.

Audiences

We need a young teenage girl who would feel confident dancing and lip syncing in public places, so we need a confident girl that also is rather good looking and her image will sell to an audience. I have researched into some potential actresses we could use and i have gathered images of them and we will begin to contact them asking if they would be comfortable with filming and interview and  audition them as neccasary.

Costume/Prop Design

Our main actress will be wearing wings to symbolise her purity and innocence she will also be wearing a mask to cover her face she will not be shot from the front angle showing her face  throughout the whole video but there will be a lot of close ups focusing on her lips eyes hands and body. The wings also go along with the falling feathers the underlying meaning of the feathers is that they are falling throughout the video and at the end they hit the floor showing her realisation that she does not need a man. the mask gives her mystery and in the video our enigma code is that we do not know why she is like this and what she has been through it is confusing because the man we suspect to be with her is actually a figment of her imagination,

SCENES

Bedroom scene- ALL
London scene- BRIONY, MORGAN, EMILY, TOM, MEGAN

Location Recce

We have chosen this location as our first option because it is white and has fairy lights which is the effect we want. We wanted the bedroom to be quite plain because we are only shooting little parts of the bedroom, it will mostly be close ups of the artist and the fairy lights for this reason this is a better option because it is larger and more spacious. We can remove all wall hanging and change the bed sheets to make the room completely white and plain.

The First choice for our location is South Bank, this is because it will be busy and there will be street acts and skateboarders in the skate park. This is the best place for us to film because we also want to film big ben and the thames. It has all the elements we want to have in our video.

Asset list

This asset list will help us ensure that we can have a successful filming day and do not fun into problems like forgetting the battery or film for the camera.

Assets to ensure we bring:

Camera Charger
Video Tape
Camera Battery
Fairy Lights
Feathers

Assets for star in text:

Shot List

This is a shot list, it will help us when filming our video as we will need to know every shot we must take to fill up the whole song. this will also speed up the production time as it tells us what particular shots we need for example a long shot, pan shot or close up.

Animatic Storyboard

StoryBoard

Our video is suppose to give our artist the image of being a male gaze and sexy and seductive. We will shoot our star in text in such a way to make her appeal to male and female audiences; we want both sexes to admire the image. The close ups of her and her body will reinforce this. We have decided to theme our video along the narrative and conceptual music video types. The narrative reading of the video will be that there is a lonely girl looking for her ‘love’. We try to portray her as lonely by giving her long shots in London making her look small and isolated. She then goes around London having imaginations that there is a boy with her, this also happens when she is at home in her bed, she thinks that there is a boy there but we will edit it in a way to make him disappear and seem to be an illusion. The conceptual reading of this is that throughout the video the feathers are falling and gradually throughout they’re falling more and more quickly and by the end they hit the floor this is significant because it shows the girls realisation that she does not need a boy. She is a fallen angel and this is what the feathers symbolise but she could also be seen as a guardian angel as he looks over other people.

Digi Pack Analysis

Ciaras newest album cover is very simple, using basic colours. This focuses on the artist. As she is dressed in dark colours, it contrasts the white background on the back cover. The dark colour is also constant on her website. Although this cover is less feminine than her other covers and website, suggesting she is trying to re-brand herself.

Website Analysis

Ciara is one of our influences for our artists brand image. On her website, it is clearly targeted at the female audience because there is makeup and fashion tutorials. The colour scheme on the website ranges over white, black and pink. These colours imply femininity and also a seductive theme. The website provides her fans with updates on pictures and news of what and where she is heading. For example her tour dates and interviews are all available to view. It is also linked to iTunes, making it easier for audiences to purchase her songs, as well as this you can buy merchandise, like t-shirts and hats. The colours and font is constant through her website and album cover.

Mariah Carey is another influence we have modeled our artist around, due to the similarities in style and music genre. Her website similarly to Ciaras offeres her fan base merchandise and a link to iTunes to purchase her music. The theme of her website has differed to each album that has been released, however the constant colour and theme is gold and butterflies. Again similarly to Ciara, there is a news reel, keeping the audience up to date on what she is releasing and when she is touring etc.

When creating our own website for Yasmin, we are going to use similar layouts to these artists. They show off the artist, in a sexualised way which appeals to women as they are presented as fit and sexy. As well as this we will include links to her soundcloud and social network sites so that her audience can keep up to date of where and when she is performing.

Artist Inspiration

These are the three main artists, which we are going to develop our artists image around. The traits of their images appeal to both the female and male audience. For women, they are all portrayed as being independent, sexy, strong women, this also appeals to the male audience through the male gaze and being sexy and admirable. Each of these artists have been successful, in the R n B genre through many years this is why we have chosen them to base our artists image on.

Aaliyah-
Was a sexy RnB/HipHop/Soul artist active in the 90's. She was a fashion icon and was seen and portrayed as a male gaze. Her songs revolved around matters of the heart and relationships which is similar to our song and we can see a gap in the market for a soulful young new artist that can be sold through her sex appeal and looks.

Mariah Carey-
A successful artist who is still widely recognised. She is seen as a male gaze even now when she is 44 years old this breaks the conventions that for a artist to be sexy they have to be young. They ways her body is shot in this particular video with the silhouettes and soft focuses are what we would like to re create in our video.

Ciara-
She is a sexy HipHop/Soul artist who is a strong female figure and is expressive with her dancing. This video and "Body Party" have a lot of shot types that we are thinking of re creating. We think that all 3 of these artists have traits that we would like to give our artist we want to shoot her video in a way that would portray her as a male gaze.

cup cup cup cup cake cake cake cake(x3)

3:00-3:12 - End Instrumental

Analysis-
When listening to the song, we was very aware of it's slow pace. This sets the pace in which our video will follow. The beat is very repetitive, allowing us to create repetitive visuals for the audience. During the beginning clicking is heard, this can be used and shown on screen. "Lets chill" suggests the soulful mood of the song, so in the video it will be very calming with easy visuals as well as a narrative. The narrative will not be created to make the audience think much, instead we will stick to a classic narrative so it is easy to follow.

The repeated chorus is most likely going to be used for the conceptual clips, so the verses can be portrayed in the narrative of the star in text not being able to be with someone she loves.

Pitch

Our client is Yasmin Amirah a 16 year old singer/ songwriter that mainly appeals to the RnB genre
In our video we plan to use different locations, one of them will be a white bedroom with fairy lights. In this scene the dominant shot type will be extreme close ups and we will be using soft focus to film the lights.
Also we will use extreme slow motion to film the feathers dropping as our video is going to be a conceptual/narrative video
The next location will be London. This will be contrasting going from light to dark and day to night time. We will also film crowded places then lonely places we want to create a clear contrast in the video to get the message across that the star in text is lonely
The narrative goes along the lines of a young girl waking up in her bedroom travelling out into London for the day upset and alone even though people surround her and at the end she finds her ‘love’. The conceptual reading of this is that the feathers are always falling throughout the video and the last shot we plan to use is the feathers finally hitting the floor.
We have discussed intertextual references and information on our blog but we feel like we want to recreate the edit that made in Chelsea uses because we listened to the song and thought of this as a editing technique. Also ghost the film because we want the character to be confused between reality and dream state.
Our artist has 2,237 followers on twitter so isn’t very well known this makes her a good choice for us to use because we can package and brand her in our own way and give her a particular image that we think would work well.

We will use beat editing and lip-syncing in our video to show that we have a relationship to the music and visuals. We want to arc around London and the most dominant shot type will be close ups to give a sense of sex appeal but not too much as she is a young artist.`"Our target audience for our client is focused on the culture around south-East London . This is because the majority of her audience is based around this area. As South East London is very integrated in different ethnicities, it is important to include different cultures in our video so that we can widen our target. The genre of music is a mix between R&B and Hip-Hop, as it is a female artist typically she appeals to the female audience as she is presented as an aspiration. However this genre of music is also known to be very 'sexy' and known for sexualising the female gender so therefore will apply to hetrosexual men. To expand our target to people with other sexualities than just hetrosexual, by using couples in our video who have different sexualities to the 'norm'.

Our intertextual references will be related to the film Ghost, as we are using editing techniques to make our star in text appear as a ghost. This will make the video hyper real. The lighting and soft focus we are going to use will be similar to the camera editing in Made in Chelsea. As the programme is shot in London, it is a good way of how we can also film the city. Existing music videos that we have taken inspiration from is Ed Sheerans 'give me love' for the narrative element of our video. Similar to this our character will be a lonely angel, who guides people to their loved one. Similar shots for the bedroom scene, are interpreted from Shontelles 'T-shirt', and Miley Cyrus' 'Adore You' videos. Both use a lot of white editing. Another video, which uses lens flares to make a halo effect is Britney Spears' 'Every time'.

Camera Editing

First of all we tested using a small light behind my head to create the 'halo' effect, similarly used on Britney Spears' "Every time" video. However in the future we will need a large spotlight and we will be using a professional camera so we can focus on the main singer. This lighting will be used to suggest the innocence of our character, and hint towards her being an angel guiding people.

We then used the mirrors to see where the camera can be placed without the camera being seen. We now know it will be possible to use close ups through the mirror and film both the mirror and person at once with a wide mirror. Mirrors imply peoples true personality by showing their reflection.

Lens flare is a camera shot, which will be used in our video to shoot the location ( London) and star in text.

Moodboard

On our mood board, I have used pictures of locations which we are going to use or create, inter textual references from existing music videos and examples of lighting and shots that will be most consistent in our video. The main camera edit as you can see is soft focus. The star in text will be shown as an angel, as we are using a conceptual style of video as well as narrative we will use feathers a lot in our video. The pace of it will be very slow, to challenge the 'busy' city, which we will be using for our location.

Existing Music Video Influences

Our video will be shot and edited in a similar way to this video with the facial close ups and extreme close ups of the artists body. Also the light editing making it look soft and clear, we will also be going in and out of focus between different shots making our video appear softer and less harsh. We will also have elements of lip syncing from the star in text.

This video contains advanced editing where Rihanna is duplicated various times in the same scence faintly, we would like to achieve this effect in our video or make our star in text appear to be a ghost and walk through doors and objects.
The shot types at the start of this video are ones we would try to re create, the shots of her body that then go to her hands and she is lip syncing. Also the slow motion walking and editing of the shots are a technique we would like to use.In this video the artist is perceived as a male gaze and is portrayed in a sexual way, this is something we are planning to achieve.

The death of you and me

Noel Ghallagers, 'trilogy' of music videos is a creative way of making a narrative more interesting and retaining his audience. With our own music video we will be using slight symbolism, however the star in text will be lip syncing and therefore more current in the video. This is a way of selling to the audience through creating a campaign, the fact that at the end it says 'to be continued' makes the audience want to listen to the next song and is a way to keep the audience interested. Noel Gallagher has been re created in a new way in this trilogy he isn't the young rebellious english teen he used to be portrayed as he has had an image change to conform to the new target audience.
