Evaluation Q4.

How we have used Technology?

Morgan & Briony
In the research and planning we used a website called survey monkey. This allowed us to get feedback on our rough cut. We set particular questions that included what we could improve on, what existing artist it reminded people of and the ages and genders of the people to see the audience we have impacted on the most.

We also used youtube to upload our rough cut on to, seeing how many views and likes we could get. We also used other social media sites such as twitter and Facebook to promote our rough cut into being seen. This type of technology was essential in getting feedback and making sure our video was out on the internet being watched by people.

For our Digipack we used keynote to create a template and then rearranged our own photographs onto the template. We colour corrected all the photos so they had the same theme, we then decided to edit them on photoshop.

Using this technology benefitted the aesthetic appeal of the DigiPack. We added the track list, the CD, spines, the album title and all the copyright information needed to make it look like a real Album. These software programmes made it a lot easier to edit and arrange the photos.

When creating the website we used Wix. It is a website designer, it gives you simple templates and you can add pages and links and pictures. We took full advantage of this technology and create a fully functioning website that had a home page, a merchandise page and a keep in touch page.  We linked social media sites through the website such as the artists twitter, instagram and soundcloud. We added a magazine cover and photos of our star in text. We also used other websites that allowed us to create our own merchandise for our artist. We experimented with many different technologies to make our website look appealing.

This helped us to let our audience feel an attachment to the artist making her more sellable and our branding more successful. We used yourdesign.com to make merchandise for our artist, this included hoodies and phone cases. This helped us to sell and promote our artist even more.

In the construction of our music video we used Final Cut Pro to edit all the shots and to beat edit so we was able to make the music match the visuals. We showed this by our strong lip syncing, we used this as a tool to show our skill with using Final Cut. we also connected the on screen visuals to the lyrics throughout the song. The lyric "as my head hits the pillow" was our inspiration for the use of feathers falling. We kept this a theme throughout the video, having shots of the feathers was our conceptual meaning.

Final cut allowed us to beat edit, colour correct and lip sync our video so was a very useful form of technology that we used, allowing us to create a particular feel and theme. It was important for us to do this to make the video higher quality and like the videos that we took inspiration from.

In our evaluation we also used different technology to present our evaluation questions. We have used Prezi, which is a presentation website that gives a presentation a creative twist.

We decided to use this because it fits in with our blog rather than having a long text. We embedded the Prezi on the blog and it is available to play. Using digital technology was important in producing all aspects of our project from planning to the construction of the final products. Even using the camera and the Go-Pro to film the under water scenes was a type of digital technology. A strong technology that has developed in the past years to promote artists are social media sites, and we were aware that this is a way existing artists promote their new albums so this is why we have linked all social media sites from our main website.

Album- artist image

I have also created a album that can be bought on iTunes for the artist as well as the album cover. The songs reflect those that are on the album and i have chosen a theme to run through the album and image to create a brand we can sell to the fans.

Six page album cover

I have started the album i have completed the front cover the track list and the back covers and the left cover. The photos link well to the video and there is a clear relation of theme and genre. So far i think it is going well and we just need to shoot some more photos to put in the inside covers and the inside back.

Audiences

We need a young teenage girl who would feel confident dancing and lip syncing in public places, so we need a confident girl that also is rather good looking and her image will sell to an audience. I have researched into some potential actresses we could use and i have gathered images of them and we will begin to contact them asking if they would be comfortable with filming and interview and  audition them as neccasary.

Costume/Prop Design

Our main actress will be wearing wings to symbolise her purity and innocence she will also be wearing a mask to cover her face she will not be shot from the front angle showing her face  throughout the whole video but there will be a lot of close ups focusing on her lips eyes hands and body. The wings also go along with the falling feathers the underlying meaning of the feathers is that they are falling throughout the video and at the end they hit the floor showing her realisation that she does not need a man. the mask gives her mystery and in the video our enigma code is that we do not know why she is like this and what she has been through it is confusing because the man we suspect to be with her is actually a figment of her imagination,

SCENES

Bedroom scene- ALL
London scene- BRIONY, MORGAN, EMILY, TOM, MEGAN

Location Recce

We have chosen this location as our first option because it is white and has fairy lights which is the effect we want. We wanted the bedroom to be quite plain because we are only shooting little parts of the bedroom, it will mostly be close ups of the artist and the fairy lights for this reason this is a better option because it is larger and more spacious. We can remove all wall hanging and change the bed sheets to make the room completely white and plain.

The First choice for our location is South Bank, this is because it will be busy and there will be street acts and skateboarders in the skate park. This is the best place for us to film because we also want to film big ben and the thames. It has all the elements we want to have in our video.

Asset list

This asset list will help us ensure that we can have a successful filming day and do not fun into problems like forgetting the battery or film for the camera.

Assets to ensure we bring:

Camera
Tripod
Camera Charger
Video Tape
Camera Battery
Fairy Lights
Feathers

Assets for star in text:

Wings
Makeup
Jeans
Boots
Large Coat
Scarf
Mask
Pyjamas

Shot List

This is a shot list, it will help us when filming our video as we will need to know every shot we must take to fill up the whole song. this will also speed up the production time as it tells us what particular shots we need for example a long shot, pan shot or close up.

StoryBoard

Our video is suppose to give our artist the image of being a male gaze and sexy and seductive. We will shoot our star in text in such a way to make her appeal to male and female audiences; we want both sexes to admire the image. The close ups of her and her body will reinforce this. We have decided to theme our video along the narrative and conceptual music video types. The narrative reading of the video will be that there is a lonely girl looking for her ‘love’. We try to portray her as lonely by giving her long shots in London making her look small and isolated. She then goes around London having imaginations that there is a boy with her, this also happens when she is at home in her bed, she thinks that there is a boy there but we will edit it in a way to make him disappear and seem to be an illusion. The conceptual reading of this is that throughout the video the feathers are falling and gradually throughout they’re falling more and more quickly and by the end they hit the floor this is significant because it shows the girls realisation that she does not need a boy. She is a fallen angel and this is what the feathers symbolise but she could also be seen as a guardian angel as he looks over other people.

Artist Inspiration

These are the three main artists, which we are going to develop our artists image around. The traits of their images appeal to both the female and male audience. For women, they are all portrayed as being independent, sexy, strong women, this also appeals to the male audience through the male gaze and being sexy and admirable. Each of these artists have been successful, in the R n B genre through many years this is why we have chosen them to base our artists image on.

Aaliyah-
Was a sexy RnB/HipHop/Soul artist active in the 90's. She was a fashion icon and was seen and portrayed as a male gaze. Her songs revolved around matters of the heart and relationships which is similar to our song and we can see a gap in the market for a soulful young new artist that can be sold through her sex appeal and looks.

Mariah Carey-
A successful artist who is still widely recognised. She is seen as a male gaze even now when she is 44 years old this breaks the conventions that for a artist to be sexy they have to be young. They ways her body is shot in this particular video with the silhouettes and soft focuses are what we would like to re create in our video.

Ciara-
She is a sexy HipHop/Soul artist who is a strong female figure and is expressive with her dancing. This video and "Body Party" have a lot of shot types that we are thinking of re creating. We think that all 3 of these artists have traits that we would like to give our artist we want to shoot her video in a way that would portray her as a male gaze.

Existing Music Video Influences

Our video will be shot and edited in a similar way to this video with the facial close ups and extreme close ups of the artists body. Also the light editing making it look soft and clear, we will also be going in and out of focus between different shots making our video appear softer and less harsh. We will also have elements of lip syncing from the star in text.

This video contains advanced editing where Rihanna is duplicated various times in the same scence faintly, we would like to achieve this effect in our video or make our star in text appear to be a ghost and walk through doors and objects.
The shot types at the start of this video are ones we would try to re create, the shots of her body that then go to her hands and she is lip syncing. Also the slow motion walking and editing of the shots are a technique we would like to use.In this video the artist is perceived as a male gaze and is portrayed in a sexual way, this is something we are planning to achieve.

The death of you and me

Noel Ghallagers, 'trilogy' of music videos is a creative way of making a narrative more interesting and retaining his audience. With our own music video we will be using slight symbolism, however the star in text will be lip syncing and therefore more current in the video. This is a way of selling to the audience through creating a campaign, the fact that at the end it says 'to be continued' makes the audience want to listen to the next song and is a way to keep the audience interested. Noel Gallagher has been re created in a new way in this trilogy he isn't the young rebellious english teen he used to be portrayed as he has had an image change to conform to the new target audience.

Gaga Album Cover

To complete this we used photoshop. We cut out the glasses from the original cover and cropped and then pasted it around the picture of Morgan wearing sunglasses. We had to transform the adjustments to fit the glasses and widen Morgan's head.
